NCAC Needs More Power To Regulate BBNaija, Sanction Cross-Dressers Like Bobrisky – Runsewe

The Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), Olusegun Runsewe has said the council needs more power to function optimally.

According to NAN, Runsewe spoke before an adhoc committee of the house of representatives set up to look into possible merger of agencies in the tourism sector.

The agencies include NCAC, National Commission for Museum and Monuments, National Gallery of Arts and the Nigerian Tourism Development Commission.

Others are the National Institute for Hospitality and Toursm, National Theater and National Troops, Centre for Black African Arts and Civilisation and National Institute for Cultural Orientation.

Speaking during the meeting, the NCAC DG told the committee that there was need to merge agencies in the tourism sector.

Runsewe also urged the committee to amend the council to give legal powers to regulate content in Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) which he said was opposed to Nigerian culture.

According to him, such power would also enable the council to go after cross dressers like Bobrisky.

“If such powers are given, the council would also go after cross dressers like Bobrisky among others,” he said.

In his remark, Victor Danzaria, chairman of the committee, said the exercise has become imperative to  avoid duplication of functions and counter productivity of the agencies.

“This is all about culture and we have DGs everywhere and that is why we experience ineffectiveness in governance,” he said.

“The merger exercise is to check your mandate, there is strength in merger and synergy and there is need for some to go. We cannot continue in government like this.”

Recall that In 2019, Runsewe described Bobrisky as a “national disaster” that poses a serious hazard to the youth.
