Senator Osita Izunaso: The Second Coming Of A Compassionate Leader

Senator Osita Izunaso is not a newcomer in the political terrain of the country and the Imo state in particular. He bestrides Nigeria’s political landscape like a colossus. Aside from his vast political and legislative experience, he is a man so humble and humane.

He is the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Imo West Senatorial District otherwise known as Orlu zone in the 2023 general election.

Senator Izunaso has always been compassionate about people, particularly persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

It was his compassion for people that spurred Senator Izunaso to set up the Kpakpando Foundation on 30th October 2005.

Kpakpando foundation for the person with a disability (PWD) is the foremost operational non -governmental organisation poised with the drive to cater to the vital needs and well-being of the person with a disability in Nigeria.

The foundation has and will continue to bring succour to the teeming numbers of persons with disability spread across Nigeria/Africa.
With about 5000 members, the foundation as of today has enrolled 500 of its members in its scholarship scheme in various secondary and tertiary institutions across the country.
Similarly, about 300 of the members have also been empowered to start their businesses.

Senator Osita Izunaso was formerly a member of the House of Representatives representing Oru West, Oguta, and Ohaji/ Egbema Federal Constituency of Imo state.

During his time at the green chambers, he was the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development between 2003 and 2007.

In 2007, Izunaso was elected senator of the Imo West Senatorial District. He was appointed the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Gas.

It was during his tenure as the Senate Committee Chairman on Gas that the issue of gas flaring in Nigeria got national and international attention and was addressed. He also used the opportunity to sensitise Nigerians to the abundance of gas in Nigeria, and the need to draw up a comprehensive gas policy.

His committee led the way by enacting the requisite legislative framework which till today has remained the bedrock on which our gas master plan was designed.

He was also a former Organizing Secretary of the APC between 2016 to 2018.

Senator Izunaso is a man of many parts, as he has distinguished himself in different areas. As a businessman, he has investments within and outside Nigeria with thousands of employees. He also made a mark in the journalism arena about twenty-five years ago when he worked with the Satellite newspapers as the Abuja Bureau Chief and editor.

As the race for 2023 senatorial draws closer, senator Izunaso is sure, one of the most qualified to be elected into the red chambers.

This is because he is fully equipped, experienced, and always ready to do what he knows how to do best – selfless service delivery and attracting democracy dividends.

His victory at the polls will be an advantage to continue his good work of human capital development, youth empowerment, and more job creation both for the people of the zone and beyond.
