Exclusive: Obi Not Desperate To Be President – Labour Party National Vice Chairman (Video)

-

The National Vice Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) for South East, Chief Innocent Sunday Okeke, has categorically stated that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi is not desperate to be the president of Nigeria.

Chief Okeke in an exclusive interview with Overtnews said that all what the former governor of Anambra State is doing is to ensure that the country becomes a better place to live in with the aim of making it be among the comity of nations.

Chief Okeke said this just hours as the Nigerians await the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) fixed for Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Recall that the Labour Party including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) headed to court to challenge the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as President in the aftermath of the February 25 presidential election.

Some of the issues presented to the court against President Tinubu was inability to secure the required 25% of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) – the country’s seat of power and the discrepancy surrounding his status as graduate of Chicago State University among other issues.

But the Labour Party chieftain said his principal, Obi going to court was him exercising his rights and it wasn’t an act of desperation.

He said the party’s presidential candidate headed to court to defend the right of the people, the will of millions of voters who trooped out to vote for the party.

“Obi is not a desperado, he’s not desperate,” Chief Okeke said. “Going to court is not being desperate, going to court is going to challenge your right, that is not desperation, it’s your right.

“When it becomes desperate is going beyond, is doing everything even out of law by all cost but you seeking your right. Even Obi going to court is to defend the right of the people, the will of the people. If Obi did not go to court you’ve shot up the whole people who suffered and paid a lot of price to come out to vote.”

On report in the media that Obi, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) recently held a meeting and that the trio are planning a merger to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should the Wednesday’s judgement goes in their favour or ahead of the 2027 election.

He said there was no such meeting with Obi, Atiku and Kwankwaso saying the reports were mere allegations.

“I don’t know who were in their meeting and when they planned the merger,” he said.

“The report of Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso planning a merger is unfounded, a mere allegation.

“Obi is not desperate but coming to help Nigerians, he has a lot that he wants to give so as to help Nigerians recover themselves, he is self made, even if he did not become president for life he’ll not beg, he’ll live very well, a normal life, go wherever but he’s doing all things to save the voiceless, the downtrodden.”
