In a recent interview on the Zero Condition Podcast, renowned Nigerian music director and cinematographer ThankGod Omori Smith, widely known as TG Omori or Boy Director, shed light on why he ceased working with singer Asake.
The collaboration between Omori and Asake commenced with the hit track “Organize” in 2022 but raised eyebrows when Asake opted for another director for his latest music videos.
Speculation swirled that Asake’s decision stemmed from dissatisfaction with their last project, “YOGA,” which didn’t garner as much attention as his previous videos.
However, TG Omori clarified the situation, emphasizing the importance of artistic freedom and his continued respect for Olamide, the musician and CEO of YBNL record label.
In the interview, TG Omori stated, “Even husband and wife go their separate ways at times; people need breaks. I believe we’ve accomplished a lot, having worked on approximately 12 videos together. We’re still on good terms. It’s a business, and ultimately, one must respect the decisions of their clients.”
He went on to express his support for artists exploring new creative avenues, saying, “I appreciate it when artists have the freedom to try new things.
I don’t want them to feel obligated to work with me just because we’re acquainted. I don’t understand why it became a big deal. To me, it’s a testament to the strong bond between YBNL and me. Olamide and I go way back, and he’s the type of person who ensures everyone gets their opportunity.”

TG Omori concluded by commending Olamide for his inclusive approach, stating, “Now, he’s collaborating with a very creative and talented director who is making waves. That’s Olamide for you. If I were to take this personally, I’d be making a mistake.”
