On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to the House of Representatives’ leadership and members in connection with the tragic passing of Representative Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga.
Following a brief illness, Danbuga, the lawmaker for Sokoto State’s Isa/Sabon Birni federal constituency, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday. He was later buried according to Islamic customs.
According to a statement from his media assistant, Ajuri Ngelale, the representative’s passing has left a void in his immediate family and deprived his constituents of high-caliber, unwavering representation in the House of Representatives.
“I offer my condolences to his family and constituents, as well as the people and government of Sokoto State. I also condole with the presiding officers of the House of Representatives and the entire membership over the devastating loss of an eminent colleague,” Tinubu was quoted as saying.
“His victory at the polls was, in itself, a testimony that he was loved by his people. He earned their respect. I understand that he had been providing effective representation for his constituents in the House.”
The President prayed for the late Danbuga’s soul to rest in peace and for his family to experience divine comfort.
To honor him, the House postponed plenary until Thursday, October 12, 2023.
In a statement seen by Overtnews, House spokesman Akin Rotimi also corroborated this.
“The House commiserates with all those he left behind and prays God comforts his family, constituents, and the entire people of Sokoto State, and grant the late parliamentarian peaceful repose of his soul,” the statement read.
