Ivory Coast on Sunday night won the 34th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1.
Williams Troost-Ekong’s header in the 38th minute initially put Nigeria in the lead, but Frank Kessie’s equalizer in the 62nd minute leveled the game.
Sebastian Haller’s goal in the 81st minute, off a corner, secured the victory for the hosts.
Nigeria struggled to handle the pressure after the game was tied, allowing Ivory Coast to capitalize on the situation.
This win marks the Ivorians’ third AFCON trophy, following their victories in 1992 and 2015.
