Kylian Mbappe was honored as France’s player of the year at a ceremony in Paris, marking the culmination of his illustrious seven-season tenure with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 25-year-old clinched the Ligue 1 best player award for the fifth consecutive time at the UNFP Trophies gala, following a remarkable season where he netted 44 goals across all competitions for PSG.

Confirming his departure from PSG at the end of the campaign, Mbappe’s next destination is widely speculated to be Real Madrid. In his final home game for PSG, Mbappe scored amidst a surprising 3-1 defeat against Toulouse, bringing his tally in Ligue 1 to 27 goals for the season, significantly ahead of his closest competitor, Lille’s Jonathan David.

As PSG gears up for their remaining Ligue 1 fixtures and the French Cup final against Lyon, Mbappe’s exceptional performance earned him the accolade, bestowed by his peers and presented by Marie-Jose Perec, former Olympic champion in the 200m and 400m events.

Teammate Ousmane Dembele and others were also contenders for the award, reflecting PSG’s dominance, which extended to other categories. Warren Zaire-Emery was recognized as the young player of the season, while Gianluigi Donnarumma received the best goalkeeper award.

Additionally, Eric Roy of Brest was celebrated as coach of the year for guiding the modest club to European qualification for the first time in their history. Brest’s remarkable achievement ensures a Europa League berth, marking a historic milestone for the Brittany-based team.
