Analysis Of Tinubu And Osinbajo On Ex-president Book Launch

On Tuesday in Abuja at the book launch of Adesina’s book titled “Working with Buhari: Reflections of A Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023)”.

The book “Working with Buhari” was written by a former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Mr Buhari, Femi Adesina, and reviewed by Shola Oshunkeye, a journalist. The second book on the legacies of Buhari was written by more than 100 contributors and edited by Udo Yakubu.

Another book titled “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (Volume 1-5)” was also launched alongside Adesina’s book.

Buhari’s presence at the book launch was his first official visit to Abuja since he left for Daura, his hometown in Katsina state, after handing over power to President Bola Tinubu on May 29, 2023.

The former president said he felt delighted returning to Abuja, noting that the book launch was worthy of temporarily bringing him out of his resting in his native Daura back to the federal capital territory (FCT).

“The two publications launched today; Working with Buhari: Reflections of a Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, 2015 – 2023, written by Femi Adesina, who served as my Media Adviser for eight years, and a volume of five books, Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015 – 2023), edited by Dr. Udu Yakubu, are worthy to temporarily bring me out of resting in my native Daura, back to the city,” Buhari said.

“These books presented today once again exemplify the sanctity of records, and the role they play in documenting facts and figures, achievements and milestones, either in our personal lives or in the life of a nation.

Tinubu’s Reflections

President Bola Tinubu on  Tuesday also extolled his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, saying he served Nigeria with “dedication and uncommon zeal.”

Mr Tinubu stated this at the unveiling of two books titled: “Working with Buhari (2015 – 2023)” and “Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy – 2015 – 2023 (Five Volumes),” in Abuja.

The president said the former Nigerian leader stayed far away after leaving office and does not in any way interfere in the present administration.
Recall that “After handing over, (Buhari) said, ‘I will be far away in Daura but if you need me, contact me. I won’t intrude on whatever you are doing. I won’t interfere. I won’t breathe down on your throat,’” Mr Tinubu said.
Mr Tinubu said the authors of the books have done justice to the “essential Muhammadu Buhari, especially on his tenure and legacy as the 15th President of Nigeria.”
He added that rather than interfere, Mr Buhari has partnered with him to make democracy flourish in the country. “We’ve partnered to make democracy flourish in Nigeria. You don’t hear from him (Buhari) either to nominate or intrude in the cabinet or complain about issues. Thank you for being who you are,” the president said.

Osinbajo’s Reflection

Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo while speaking on the book launch has described the book by Femi Adesina, former special adviser on media and publicity to former president Muhammad buhari, as “very wise and proactive”, as it gives the “the most reliable account” of his experiences at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

On the idea of the author coming up with the publication at this point in time, Mr Osinbajo said:

“I think it is a very wise and proactive approach. I think it is wise to do so especially because he was an insider. He has all the information about the personal issues, personal details that are covered in the book. It is the right thing to do, so that he defines the narrative ahead, and anyone else who wants to write would have to use this as their soft material. Obviously, this is the most reliable account of his experiences in there.”

Lauding the quality of the book, and the richness of information in it, Mr Osinbajo posited that it is “in many ways a personal discussion or conversation with Nigerians about who President Buhari was.” And Adesina is “possibly the person who would best represent who the (former) President was.”

According to Mr Osinbajo, this is more so as Mr Adesina has all the “the kind of care and attention that would be required to do a proper and in-depth analysis” of the era.

The former Vice President added everything up and described the book “an honest account”.
