Arteta Praises Bukayo Saka’s Remarkable Competitive Growth After Arsenal’s 3-0 Victory Against Bournemouth

Mikel Arteta highlighted the significant growth in Bukayo Saka’s competitiveness this season following Arsenal’s 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth.

Saka’s decisive penalty just before halftime marked his 16th league goal of the season, positioning him four goals ahead of Arsenal’s next top scorer, Kai Havertz.

Arteta emphasized Saka’s enhanced competitive spirit, noting that despite his consistent performance last season, he has elevated his game even further this campaign.

“In the game, he has become more effective I would say,” Arteta told reporters.

“I see a different edge on him. The way he competes, he loves winning more than three months ago, six months ago, a year ago, and that is something that now is hopefully in his system.”

Amid early second-half pressure from Bournemouth, Leandro Trossard’s goal in the 70th minute provided relief at the Emirates Stadium, followed by Declan Rice’s stoppage-time strike, securing a 3-0 victory for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta commended Rice for his goal and versatility in his debut season, particularly highlighting his seamless transition since joining from London rivals West Ham United.

“We have changed his positions and sometimes it is not easy for players to adapt to that so I think he deserves a lot of credit,” he said.

With 83 points from 36 games, Arsenal maintained their lead over champions Manchester City, who stood at 79 points from 34 matches before their encounter with Wolves later that day.

Arsenal’s clean sheet against Bournemouth extended their streak to 15 games without conceding, securing goalkeeper David Raya the Premier League “golden glove” award for the season.

Despite initial fan criticism over Mikel Arteta’s decision to bring Raya in on loan and replace the beloved Aaron Ramsdale earlier in the season, Raya’s performance has vindicated the manager’s choice.

“It gives us a huge foundation to be closer to winning trophies and winning titles,” Arteta said.
