The Senate Ad hoc Committee investigating the ₦30 trillion Ways and Means facility utilized between 2015 and 2023 has clarified that the investigation is still active and progressing.
Senator Isah Jibrin, representing Kogi East and chairman of the committee, refuted claims that the probe, which began in March 2024, is stalled.
Senator Jibrin emphasized the importance of thorough and factual findings over adhering to the initial six-week timeframe. He stated, “The essence of an investigation is to come up with factual findings and not just roll in a report within a specified time frame.”
The committee has sent a reminder to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, requesting additional details on the Ways and Means disbursements, including the beneficiaries, amounts, dates, purposes, and adherence to repayment schedules.
The committee is awaiting a response to this request to continue its comprehensive investigation.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, widely known as Kanayo O. Kanayo, has expressed criticism towards affluent Nigerian men who lavishly spend money on actresses in the entertainment industry.

The 62-year-old actor commented that this financial support creates a perception that male actors are not as hardworking.

Speaking on “The Honest Bunch” podcast, Kanayo noted that the financial disparity between male and female entertainers adversely affects the careers of male actors.

“Many wealthy Nigerian men support our women in ways that make it seem like we are not working hard. They spend money on our girls to the extent that it impoverishes us and makes it look like we don’t work hard,” he stated.

Kanayo highlighted the disparity by recounting situations where female actresses receive substantial financial backing for productions, whereas male actors are urged to work harder for similar opportunities.

He lamented that male actors often face financial difficulties without the same level of support.

He also discussed the trend of actresses undergoing cosmetic surgery to fit into the industry, asserting that true acting talent should be inherent and not dependent on physical appearance enhancements.

In a country as diverse as Nigeria, where ethnic and regional differences often shape personal and political dynamics, Davido, born David Adeleke, stands out as a beacon of unity and modernity.

Despite his affluent background and the expectations that might come with it, Davido has charted his own path in both his personal and professional life, demonstrating the power of love and choice over tradition and societal pressures.

Davido hails from a wealthy Yoruba family in the western part of Nigeria.

His father, Adedeji Adeleke, is a successful business magnate, which meant Davido grew up in a world of privilege and opportunity. In many affluent Nigerian families, especially those with deep cultural roots, parents often play a significant role in choosing life partners for their children, ensuring marriages that align with family interests and traditions.

However, Davido has defied these expectations. His choice of Chioma Rowland, an Igbo woman from the southeastern part of Nigeria, as his life partner is a testament to his commitment to personal freedom and love.

Chioma, a chef and social media influencer, met Davido while they were both studying at Babcock University. Their relationship blossomed publicly, with Davido openly expressing his love for her in his music and social media posts.

In a nation where ethnic tensions are often exacerbated by political narratives, Davido’s marriage to Chioma sends a powerful message. It symbolizes the potential for unity and harmony among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic groups. By choosing a partner from a different ethnic background, Davido not only follows his heart but also sets an example for millions of Nigerians.

Inter-ethnic marriages in Nigeria are often seen as a way to bridge divides and foster understanding among different communities.

They represent a blending of cultures and traditions, promoting tolerance and respect.

Davido’s marriage is a public endorsement of these values, showing that love can transcend ethnic boundaries and contribute to a more united Nigeria.

Davido and Chioma’s relationship has not been without its challenges. The couple has faced public scrutiny and personal tragedies, including the heartbreaking loss of their first child, Ifeanyi.

Despite these hardships, their bond has remained strong, culminating in their wedding on June 25, 2024, in Lagos.

The wedding, celebrated with friends, family, and fans, is a testament to their resilience and enduring love.

In a stunning turn of events, Italy secured a spot in the UEFA Euro 2024 knockout rounds after a dramatic 1-1 tie with Croatia.

Italy’s late-game equalizer ensured their advancement to the next stage of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Croatia’s hopes of finishing in the top two required a victory, leading to a strong offensive push from the outset.

Luka Sucic came close to scoring early on, but his effort was thwarted by Gianluigi Donnarumma’s impressive save.

Despite their early pressure, Croatia’s defense showed vulnerability, and Mateo Retegui’s header from a cross by Riccardo Calafiori barely missed the target.

Italy’s strategy of delivering crosses into the box nearly paid off when Nicolo Barella’s precise delivery found Alessandro Bastoni’s head, but Dominik Livakovic’s exceptional reflexes denied them with a spectacular save.

Livakovic’s heroics took on added significance after the interval, as Croatia earned a penalty when Davide Frattesi handled the ball in the area.

Luka Modric stepped up to take the spot kick, but Gianluigi Donnarumma made a crucial stop.

The two goalkeepers continued their duel, and moments later, Modric capitalized on a rebound, firing the ball into the net with conviction, making history as the oldest goalscorer in the Euros.

Donnarumma had initially made a remarkable save to thwart Andrej Kramaric’s effort, but Modric’s persistence paid off.

Italy’s struggles to keep a clean sheet continued, and they almost conceded immediately after the restart, with Alessandro Bastoni’s header from close range sailing over the bar.

Despite a series of substitutions disrupting their rhythm, Italy found a late spark, and substitute Mattia Zaccagni scored a stunning equalizer in the dying seconds, crushing Croatia’s hopes and securing Italy’s spot in the knockout stage.

Croatia must now anxiously await the outcome of other matches to determine if they will advance as one of the best third-place teams.

Italy, on the other hand, has already secured their place in the round of 16, where they will face Switzerland on June 29th.

Copa America: Brazil Fails To Tame Costa Rica In Opening Group Match

Brazil, the nine-time Copa America champions and 2021 runners-up, unexpectedly played to a scoreless draw against Costa Rica, the second-lowest ranked team in the tournament.

Despite controlling the game and creating numerous opportunities, Brazil’s squad, led by Dorival Junior, was unable to score and had to settle for a single point.

Brazil had previously dominated their head-to-head matches against Costa Rica, winning ten and losing only one.

In this match, Brazil came close to scoring early on, with Raphinha forcing a smart save from Costa Rican goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira and Rodrygo narrowly missing the target.

Raphinha was denied again by Sequeira as the game went on, with Costa Rica struggling to get a shot on goal, making it seem inevitable that Brazil would eventually break the deadlock.

Just as it seemed Brazil had finally scored, VAR intervened, overturning Marquinhos’ goal due to Rodrygo’s marginal offside position, confirmed by replays.

Brazil continued to press for a goal, dominating the second half as they had the first. Lucas Paqueta came close with a powerful long-range shot, but it struck the right post, leaving the game surprisingly scoreless.

With time running out, Brazil’s coach Dorival Junior brought on substitutes Endrick and Savio, two young talents, in a last-ditch effort to secure a well-deserved breakthrough in the final 20 minutes of the match.

Brazil’s dominance throughout the match was evident, with 18 shots on goal compared to Costa Rica’s three.

Yet, they were left frustrated, settling for a draw despite their clear superiority. This result comes ahead of their upcoming match against Paraguay, who suffered a 2-1 loss to Colombia earlier in the day.

Costa Rica, on the other hand, extend their winless streak against Brazil to 84 years, but will take heart from securing a point in California despite being largely outplayed.

They will now face Colombia in Glendale on Friday, buoyed by their resilient performance.
