Chelsea triumphed 2-1 over Brighton on Wednesday, moving up to sixth place in the Premier League with one game remaining.

Cole Palmer opened the scoring with his 22nd league goal of the season in the 34th minute. Christopher Nkunku extended Chelsea’s lead in the 64th minute before Blues defender Reece James was sent off for kicking Brighton’s Joao Pedro.

Danny Welbeck scored for Brighton in stoppage time, but Chelsea held on to claim their fourth consecutive league win, a streak they haven’t achieved since October 2022.

With Newcastle losing 3-2 to Manchester United on the same day, Chelsea overtook the Magpies in the standings. The Blues will secure a spot in next season’s Europa League if they avoid defeat against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, or if seventh-placed Newcastle fails to win at Brentford.

Chelsea could also finis

h fifth if they beat Bournemouth and Tottenham lose to Sheffield United. This turnaround has been orchestrated by Pochettino, who has faced criticism during his challenging first season in charge.
