DHQ: Troops Rescue 137 Abducted Kaduna Schoolchildren in Zamfara


The Defence Headquarters announced on Sunday that troops successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers of LEA School Kuriga in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna, within Zamfara State.

On March 7, 2024, approximately 287 pupils and teachers from the school were kidnapped by suspected terrorists and taken into the forest.

The abductors demanded a ransom of N1 billion for their release, setting a deadline of March 27, 2024, for the payment.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed in a statement that the victims, totaling 137 individuals—comprising 76 females and 61 males—were rescued in the early hours of Sunday by the troops, with support from local authorities and government agencies.

Moreso,The rescue operation, conducted in the early hours of March 24, 2024, involved a coordinated effort between the military, local authorities, and government agencies across the country.

Moreover,The rescued hostages, who were the same individuals abducted from the school in Kuriga, Chikun LGA of Kaduna State, are to be conveyed and handed over to the Kaduna State Government for further action.

Notably, the successful rescue of the Kaduna pupils occurred a day after troops rescued 16 pupils and a woman taken hostage in Gada LGA of Sokoto State, with the victims subsequently handed over to the Sokoto State Government.

Also,he emphasized that the recent successes of the troops are a testament to their resolve to rescue kidnapped victims across the country.

He added that Efforts are also underway to track down those responsible for the killing of soldiers in Delta State.

However,Troops are deploying similar efforts to track down the culprits responsible for the killings of 18 soldiers in the Okuama Community of Delta State.
