The new rate is now N206.80 per kilowatt-hour, down from the N225/kWh previously approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion, the spokesperson for IKEDC, made this known to the press on Monday.

As per the notice, the revised tariff for Band A customers will be effective from Monday, May 6, 2024. The updated rate sets the electricity charge at N206.80/Kwh for Band A customers, down from the previous N225/Kwh.

“Please be informed of the downward tariff review of our Band A feeders from N225/kwh to N206.80/kwh effective 6th May 2024 with guaranteed availability of 20-24hrs supply daily,” the statement said.

The choice to reduce the tariff could be attributed to the widespread public criticism regarding the heightened electricity charges, which various industry observers, Civil Society Organisations, and labor unions have deemed insensitive.

It’s noteworthy that the tariffs for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unaltered.
