Forgery: FG Asks Interpol To Place Three Nigerians On Watchlist

Sequel to the ongoing investigations of corruption and fraud during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government has requested Interpol to place three Nigerian individuals on a watchlist for allegedly colluding with Emefiele in the fraudulent act of forging President Buhari’s signature to embezzle $6.2 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Overtnews reports that the suspects, identified as Adamu Abubakar, Imam Abubakar, and Odoh Eric Ocheme, stand accused of forging President Buhari’s signature and documents attributed to Boss Mustapha, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), in order to illicitly obtain the funds from the CBN.

The forged documents include:

  1. The Presidency, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Identity Card in the name of Jibril Abubakar.
  2. Letter dated 23 January, 2023 purportedly written by Muhammad Buhari to the Mr. Boss Mustapha.
  3. Letter dated 26 January, 2023 purportedly written by Boss Mustapha to Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
  4. Central Bank of Nigeria Internal Memo dated 31 January, 2023 purportedly written by the Director, Banking Services Department to the Governor.
  5. Central Bank of Nigeria Internal Memo dated 7th February, 2023 purportedly written by the Director, Banking Services Department to the Branch Controller, Abuja, Branch, with the intent that the Central Bank of Nigeria, Abuja Branch may in the believe that the documents are genuine be induced to pay the sum of six million, two hundred and thirty thousand United States Dollars ($6,230,000.00)

The Office of the Special Investigator, appointed by President Bola Tinubu to probe the activities of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), related entities, and other significant government business entities, submitted the request.
