Herbert Wigwe, Wife, and Son Buried After Week-Long Funeral Ceremonies


Hundreds of mourners from Nigeria and around the world gathered in Isiokpo to bid farewell to Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba, and their son, Chizi.

The trio, who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash, were laid to rest in a private ceremony in their hometown of Omueke, Isiokpo in Rivers State.

The funeral proceedings began with a solemn church service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo.

Mourners, including dignitaries such as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and business magnate Aliko Dangote, paid their final respects to the departed souls.

Meanwhile,Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and former Nigerian diplomat Dr. Godknows Igali were also among the attendees, reflecting the widespread impact of the loss.

The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe, along with other notable figures, has left a profound void in the Nigerian banking industry and beyond.

According to the NTSB, the witnesses reported that the weather on the fateful day of the helicopter crash was a mix of rain and snow.Wigwe’s death remains one of the most shocking in the Nigerian banking industry.

During the events leading to their burial, several friends, captains of industry, family members, and associates paid tributes to the late banking guru and his wife and son.

Also,Aliko Dangote described Herbert Wigwe as a pillar of support and renaming a road leading to the Dangote Refinery in his honor.

Moreso,Vice President Kashim Shettima praised Wigwe’s visionary leadership and dedication to his community.

“Herbert left us in winter before the season of bloom. Spring was just about to arrive at his last location, the United States when the Lord called for him,” Shettima said.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu highlighted his detribalized nature and his embodiment of the spirit of Lagos.

In an emotional moment, Tochi Wigwe, Herbert’s daughter, fondly remembered her father as committed and caring, reflecting on the impact he had on her life and the lives of many others.
