Spain’s government has named former national team coach Vicente del Bosque to lead a new committee tasked with overseeing the scandal-plagued RFEF soccer federation, announced Sports Minister Pilar Alegria on Tuesday.

OvertNews reports that last week, Spain, set to co-host the 2030 World Cup, revealed the establishment of this special committee to manage the RFEF until new elections are held. FIFA and UEFA have expressed deep concern and are closely monitoring the situation.

This decision comes in the wake of numerous scandals, including a corruption probe and the ousting of former president Luis Rubiales following an incident where he kissed player Jenni Hermoso without consent during an awards ceremony after Spain’s women’s World Cup victory in Sydney last year.

Del Bosque guided the Spanish men’s team to their inaugural World Cup triumph in 2010, and subsequently secured Spain’s second consecutive European Championship title two years later.

During his tenure at Real Madrid from 1999, Del Bosque claimed two Champions League trophies and two La Liga titles in a remarkable four-year span.
