Mali Stuns Nigeria 0-2 In International Friendly

Nigeria suffered a disappointing loss against Mali during Tuesday night’s friendly match in Marrakesh.

The Super Eagles had hoped to continue their momentum in Morocco following their recent defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations final by hosts Ivory Coast, followed by a morale-boosting victory over Ghana.

However, they fell short, with a defensive error from Chidozie Awaziem leading to Mali’s early goal by El Bilal Toure.

Despite opportunities, including a missed chance by Moses Simon who was later injured, and another by substitute Cyriel Dessers, Nigeria couldn’t find the equalizer. Mali secured the win with a late goal from Kamory Doumbia.

The defeat raises concerns for Nigeria’s interim coach, Finidi George, regarding his chances of securing the position permanently.

This setback comes just after their victory over Ghana, leaving George’s prospects uncertain ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

Conversely, Mali’s win is a significant achievement, particularly after their Africa Cup of Nations exit. It provides them with confidence as they prepare for future qualifiers against Ghana and Madagascar in June.
