Manchester City Crush Luton 5-1 To Seize EPL Top Spot!

Manchester City temporarily climbed to the top of the Premier League table with a comprehensive 5-1 victory over Luton Town at the Etihad Stadium, extending their unbeaten league run to 17 games.

Fresh from an enthralling 3-3 midweek draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League, City made a blistering start against the struggling visitors. Within two minutes, an unfortunate own goal from Daiki Hashioka, deflecting in Erling Haaland’s acrobatic effort, handed the hosts the lead.

Despite dominating possession and peppering the Luton goal, City couldn’t add to their tally in a frustrating first half, even striking the post through Matheus Nunes.

The pattern continued after the break, with Ruben Dias going close before Mateo Kovacic finally doubled City’s advantage with a sublime half-volley past the hour mark.

Although substitute Cauley Woodrow rattled the crossbar, Luton’s resistance was broken when Haaland converted from the spot after Jeremy Doku was fouled.

With the points secured, City ran rampant late on. Ross Barkley pulled one back for Luton, but Doku and Josko Gvardiol added further gloss with well-taken strikes.

The convincing win lifts Pep Guardiola’s side to the summit, two points clear of title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, who play on Sunday. As for Luton, the defeat leaves them in the relegation zone, without an away league win since Boxing Day.
