Mother Appeals to Rivers Government for Return of Son’s Body After Boat Accident Tragedy


The tragic boat accident that claimed the lives of Nollywood sound engineer Precious Ofurum, actor Junior Pope, and others has left families grieving, with one mother making a heartfelt plea to the Rivers State Government.

Following the accident on April 10 during the production of Adanma Luke’s movie “Another Side of Life,” Precious Ofurum’s body, along with three other crew members, was recovered on April 11.

In a poignant video circulating on social media, Precious’s mother, visibly distraught, appealed for financial aid and assistance in bringing her son’s body home for a proper burial.

Expressing the dire situation of being without her son, who was the family’s main provider, she implored the government to intervene, saying, “I call on the government and governor of Rivers State to come and help me. As I dey here I no well na that my son dey treat me, now no way to treat, no way to help for the family. Government make una help me.”

Meanwhile, another victim of the accident, Abigail Frederick, was initially buried at the river bank but has since been reburied in her hometown in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The 24-year-old’s body was returned to Akwa Ibom State for a proper burial following instructions from Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, who also paid a condolence visit to her family.

Precious Ofurum hailed from Ubima in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State.
