In the wake of the tragic killing of 16 military personnel in the Okuama community of Delta State, the Nigerian Army has moved swiftly to reassure residents of the area, dispelling fears of reprisal attacks.

Last week’s gruesome murder of military personnel had understandably sparked concerns of potential reprisals, particularly after reports of the area being razed.

However, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Public Relations for the Nigerian Army, sought to allay these fears on Monday.

In a statement, the Nigerian Army urged residents of the community to resume their normal activities without fear, emphasizing that law-abiding citizens would not face reprisals from the troops. Instead, efforts are being intensified to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the heinous act.

However, the army accused the Okuama community of resorting to media propaganda in the aftermath of the tragedy.
