Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has embarked on a reconciliation effort aimed at uniting various factions within the party.

On Tuesday, Obi visited the Labour Party headquarters in Abuja, a move he described as an attempt to “carry everybody along into one strong family” rather than endorse any particular group’s interests.

The visit was part of ongoing consultations by Obi to foster peace within the party ranks.

In a continuation of these efforts, the former Anambra State governor met with the political arm of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday.

During the meeting with the NLC/TUC political commission leadership, including Comrades Titus Amba and Chris Uyot, Obi stressed the need for reconciling various positions within the party in a peaceful manner to achieve a united front.

“The party needed to reconcile all various positions in a peaceful atmosphere to have a united house that should be all-inclusive,” Obi was quoted as saying by his spokesperson, Dr. Yunusa Tanko.

Expressing gratitude for the understanding shown by the workers’ union leadership, Obi voiced hope for a productive working relationship in the near future.

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate also plans to engage with other critical stakeholders, including the “Obidient” movement, in his pursuit of forging an all-encompassing political family with a shared vision of rescuing Nigeria.
