Rumoured Plans To Relocate FAAN, CBN Departments To Lagos: Hope Uzodimma Wades In

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has advocated for the relocation of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) headquarters and select departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Lagos, citing operational efficiency and economic viability.

The governor expressed this viewpoint during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

He said, “I listened to Ali Ndume, I listened to the Northern Senators’ Forum, I listened to the Emir of Kano. You can see the preponderance of opinions.

“And then the majority opinion is that merit should be the driving criterion for decision-making in the country.

“The main aviation hub is in Lagos and if the operation’s department is sent to Lagos to be able to manage aviation operations effectively, I have not seen any ill in it,” the governor added.

Uzodimma emphasized that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) serves as the bankers’ bank, overseeing all commercial banks in the country. He stressed the importance of merit as the primary criterion and efficiency as the guiding principle for conducting business in this context.

“Therefore, if you move the operations department of FAAN to Lagos to supervise airlines, it makes economic sense,” the governor stressed,

The Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum in the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized opponents of President Bola Tinubu, accusing them of orchestrating a “campaign of calumny” against him regarding his administration’s policies.

Uzodimma clarified that there is no intention on Tinubu’s part to relocate the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from Lagos to Abuja.
