Shettima Pays Tribute to Late Herbert Wigwe and Family


Vice President Kashim Shettima made a glorious tribute to the late Herbert Wigwe, former Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, and his family, who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash,in a heartfelt tribute delivered in Lagos on March 6, 2024,

Describing Wigwe as a beacon of hope, Shettima lamented the untimely departure of the businessman, noting that he left before the season of bloom. .

Addressing the gathering at the night of tribute, Shettima recalled Wigwe’s remarkable contributions to the Nigerian banking industry and his visionary leadership.

In his speech titled “Herbert Wigwe: The Flower That Bloomed Before Spring,” the Vice President emphasized Wigwe’s early successes, his aspiration to establish the “Harvard of Africa,” and his dedication to creating a lasting legacy.

Reflecting on the tragic loss of Wigwe’s wife, son, and others onboard the helicopter, Shettima expressed profound sorrow, describing it as a collective grief felt by many.

He urged Nigerians to celebrate the lives and achievements of the deceased, emphasizing their enduring impact on those they touched and inspired.

While acknowledging the physical departure of Wigwe and his companions, Shettima emphasized that their spirits continue to live on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew them. He concluded by expressing hope that Wigwe’s legacy will continue to inspire greatness in others.

To be recalled,Wigwe, alongside his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), were involved in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9, 2024.All six passengers including the two crew members onboard the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter died.
