Ten Hag Applauds Exiled Sancho’s Stellar Performance in Champions League Triumph

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag has showered praises on Jadon Sancho’s standout performance in the Champions League semi-final for Borussia Dortmund, highlighting why Manchester United invested in him and emphasizing his significant value.

Despite initial struggles to meet expectations after his £73 million ($91 million) transfer from Dortmund in 2021, Sancho faced adversity when he was sidelined from the first-team squad last September following a social media post where he felt unjustly blamed.

This rift deepened when Ten Hag suggested Sancho’s training performance before a match against Arsenal. Consequently, Sancho hasn’t featured for United since then, being loaned back to Dortmund in January.

His recent stellar display against Paris Saint-Germain has reignited discussions about his future in the football world.

“Yesterday he showed why Manchester United bought him,” Ten Hag told reporters on Thursday. “He showed also that he represents a high value for Manchester United, which is good.

“So, I’m happy — happy for Jadon with his performance yesterday and we will see what is going to happen in the future.”

Recent reports suggested that the majority of Manchester United’s players were on the transfer market following a disappointing season, although the club expressed intentions to retain promising young talents such as Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund.

However, Erik ten Hag, whose future at the club remains uncertain, dismissed these reports as greatly exaggerated.

“It’s a joke,” he said. “As long as I’ve worked here, every summer, every window, I think 200 players are getting interest from Manchester United. We did some research. Untrue.

“And also every summer we sell all of the players in our squad, so you (in the media) are making all of the headlines, which is untrue.”

Marcus Rashford was rumored to be among those listed for sale, and the struggling forward is set to remain absent when sixth-placed Manchester United resume Premier League action against Crystal Palace on Monday.

“I can’t tell (when he will be back),” Ten Hag said.

Rashford will be joining Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Raphael Varane on the sidelines, while Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes are also doubtful for the upcoming game against Crystal Palace.
