Tukur Mamu Requests Transfer from DSS Custody to Kuje Prison

Alleged terrorist negotiator Tukur Mamu, currently facing trial for terrorism offenses, has petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to transfer him from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Mamu appealed to Justice Inyang Ekwo to modify the remand order against him, requesting to be transferred to Kuje Prison instead of remaining in DSS custody.

During the trial proceedings, Mamu’s lawyer, Abdul Mohammed, alleged that the court’s order from December 19, 2023, granting Mamu access to his personal physician for medical treatment, was not adhered to by the DSS.

In a motion on notice presented by Mohammed, Mamu claimed that he was only allowed access to the physician once, during which a report detailing a comprehensive medical examination to be conducted on him was submitted to the DSS.

Since the submission of the medical report, Mamu alleged that the physician has not been granted access to him, despite his urgent need for surgical operations in any hospital in the country.

He expressed concern over the deterioration of his health and warned that his life may be in jeopardy if he remains in DSS custody instead of being transferred to Kuje prison.

Mamu assured the court of his commitment to attending the terrorism trial regularly, emphasizing that he can only stand trial if he is alive.

In response, the judge scheduled May 20 for ruling on Mamu’s request.
