Thursday’s fixed arraignment of convicted kidnap kingpin Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, also known as Evans, did not hold at the Lagos High Court in Ikeja due to the absence of his counsel.

Trial judge, Justice Adenike Coker, adjourned the case until June 13 for the planned arraignment. Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, face an amended 5-count charge of murder, attempted kidnapping, and conspiracy.

The charges stem from incidents including the killing of Peter Nweke in August 2013 and an attempt on the life of the Chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors, Obianado Vincent.

During the proceedings, both defendants expressed unawareness of the arraignment and doubts about their lawyers’ awareness.

The prosecutor confirmed communication with Evans’s counsel, who was aware but absent. The court noted the ongoing plea bargain talks and scheduled the next hearing for June 13, urging Evans to ensure his counsel’s presence.
