He called on the Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, to investigate allegations of child rights violations associated with the planned event.

Sarkindaji expressed disappointment with the minister’s stance on the mass wedding, which aimed to assist orphans whose families couldn’t afford marriage expenses. He criticized the minister for not seeking clarification from him before making negative statements to the media.

This decision follows the minister’s condemnation of the proposed marriages, citing concerns about the girls’ ages and consent, and petitioning the Inspector-General of Police to intervene.

Kennedy-Ohanenye also sought a court injunction to halt the marriages, citing concerns about the orphans’ vulnerability to exploitation by bandits.
