Xabi Alonso Commits to Leverkusen Amid Liverpool and Bayern Rumor Dismissal

Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen can expect Coach Xabi Alonso (42) to extend his tenure beyond this season.

Reports from Bild and Sky in Germany suggest Alonso will dispel speculation about his future on Good Friday during a press conference at 14:00 CET, affirming his commitment to the club.

Despite links to Bayern Munich and Liverpool, Alonso, who took over as coach in October 2022 with Leverkusen at the bottom of the table, has a contract until 2026.

Leverkusen, unbeaten this season, is in contention for three titles under his leadership.

Leverkusen currently holds a commanding lead in the league, enjoying a 10-point advantage over Bayern Munich.

In the DFB Cup, Leverkusen is favored heading into the semi-final against second-division side Fortuna Dusseldorf, while they also face West Ham United in the Europa League quarter-finals.

Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has virtually ruled out any signings, stating in an interview with BR24Sport that it would be “very difficult, not to say probably impossible.”

Reports from ESPN and Sky Sports indicate that Xabi Alonso is no longer considered a serious candidate to succeed outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
