16 Lawmakers Suspended for Failed Attempt to Impeach Zamfara Speaker


Seven members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly took decisive action on Monday, suspending sixteen of their colleagues who had reportedly moved to impeach Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki.

The suspension stemmed from allegations that the sixteen members had unlawfully accessed the offices of the clerk and sergeant at arms, causing damage to property within the assembly complex.

Under the leadership of Speaker Moriki, the House swiftly denounced the legitimacy of the legislative session held by the eighteen members last Thursday, labeling it as illegal. Additionally, they urged the people of Zamfara State to disregard rumors suggesting the suspension of Speaker Moriki.

Moreover,Accusations flew as the lawmakers pointed fingers at external political figures, alleging their involvement in instigating the upheaval aimed at destabilizing Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration amidst the ongoing security challenges posed by banditry in the state.

However,Last Thursday, eighteen members, led by a self-proclaimed “Speaker Pro-Tempo,” suspended Moriki due to his prolonged absence in the state amidst the resurgence of bandit activities.
