Abuja And Kogi Experienced Blackout Due To Power Station Collapse


Residents of Abuja and Kogi experienced a temporary power outage recently, attributed to technical glitches within the electricity distribution system.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company attributed the blackout to a technical fault on the 33kv feeder k6 from the AT9 Karu Transmission Station, managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Meanwhile,This affected several areas, including Zamani Estate, Abacha Road Mararaba, and Ruga Juli in Abuja, all falling under the coverage of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc.

In response to the blackout, both the Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc and the TCN swiftly initiated measures to rectify the issue and restore electricity supply to the affected regions.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc promptly notified its esteemed customers about the technical fault and assured them that the TCN maintenance crew was diligently working to expedite the restoration process. Efforts were focused on minimizing the inconvenience caused by the outage, prioritizing swift resolution.

Meanwhile,in a statement the TCN announced a scheduled maintenance plan to address potential future disruptions. This maintenance operation involved work on the TR3 45MVA and TR2 60MVA power transformers at the 132/33kV Okene Transmission Substation.

However,The maintenance was carefully planned to span two days, from March 19th to March 20th, 2024, with daily working hours from 10:00 am to 03:00 pm. During this period, certain areas, such as OKENE TOWN, KABBA, OSOSO, and IKARE, would experience temporary power outages for five hours each day.

Consequently, Abuja DisCo will not be able to offtake power from the substation to its customers in OKENE TOWN, today, and also KABBA, OSOSO, and IKARE, tomorrow, 20th March, 2024 for five hours.”

“Kindly note that bulk power supply will be restored to Abuja DisCo immediately after maintenance work is completed.”
