A motion by 49 lawmakers on Tuesday has urged the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment to halt a proposed trade partnership with the United Kingdom.

The partnership, which has sparked public outcry, particularly focuses on sectors like energy, legal, and financial services.

The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment to halt immediately the signing and implementation of a trade partnership with the United Kingdom (UK) that permits UK lawyers to practice within Nigeria.

Citing the potential detriment to qualified Nigerian lawyers, members of the Green Chamber raised alarms over the perceived one-sided nature of the agreement. They argue that such arrangements could lead to unfavorable terms for Nigeria in the long run, potentially compromising the interests of its citizens.
