Luis Rubiales Speaks Out After Spanish FA Scandal Unveils Shocking Corruption Probe

Former Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president Luis Rubiales has spoken out following a police raid on his house amid corruption allegations.

Overtnews reports that authorities conducted the raid as part of an investigation into accusations of corruption and money laundering, resulting in the arrest of at least six individuals.

Rubiales, known for his controversial actions such as the uninvited kiss after Spain’s Women’s World Cup victory and his refusal to step down, was not among those detained.

However, he is among five other individuals who have been formally placed under investigation, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Speaking to the media, Rubiales said via AS: “I am absolutely surprised by all of this. I have been working here for months, in the Dominican Republic. I’ve been doing it for more than a month straight. And in fact, my family was going to spend Easter with me.”

The recent raids are linked to an investigation initiated in 2022 regarding Luis Rubiales’s decision to alter the format of the Spanish Super Cup and move it to Saudi Arabia, reportedly costing the federation €240 million over six years.

Wednesday’s operation, as per Spanish authorities, is part of a broader inquiry into allegations of money laundering, improper asset management, and corporate malpractice.

Rubiales stepped down from his position in September, shortly after an incident where he kissed Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the World Cup medal ceremony.

The Spanish criminal court is examining allegations of coercion and sexual abuse against Rubiales, which he denies.
